General cargo ship Bahia De Alcudia caught fire in engine room at Tarragona port in Spain. The vessel was preparing to load cargo of coal, when fire erupted in boiler room and extended to the compartment. The accident was immediately reported to local authorities and at the scene were sent firefighters, which assisted with extinguishing the flames in just two hours later. All the non-essential crew was evacuated from the freighter and there were no injured people and no water pollution. The extend of damages on board of general cargo ship Bahia De Alcudia caused by the fire are not yet assessed.
The compartment will be inspected after cooling and ventilation.
The vessel will be detained until further special survey. The investigation for the root cause of the fire is under way.
